After the Russian aggression against Ukraine escalated in 2022 we launched the Classroom4Ukraine and provided temporary schooling for Ukrainian refugee children in Berlin. The initiative offers a safe, structured learning environment, helps children to bridge the time before starting school and supports families during the transition.

Supporting Ukrainian children with structured education.

In the first month after the Russian aggression, thousands of Ukrainian refugees arrived in Berlin. Amongst them where children, which already suffered a lot and didn't have access to structured and organised education. We wanted to provide immediate, structured education for Ukrainian refugee children during the waiting period before enrollment in German schools.

With Berlin’s school system overwhelmed, many children were left without access to learning, isolating them and preventing parents from pursuing work or integration services. Our goal was to bridge this gap, foster stability, and support the early integration of both children and their families.

Setting up a Classroom4Ukraine

Together with partners like "Die Arche", "Edurino", "Sennder" and "Project A" we could set up Ukrainian classrooms quickly, using resources and donations like office space, furniture and learning materials.

Additionally we:

  • Hired and registered Ukrainian-speaking teachers.

  • Developed a daily school program including German lessons, lunch, and creative activities.

  • Created a welcoming environment (e.g. Schultüten on the first day, school trips).

  • Scaled from one to two classrooms, then moved to a larger space due to demand.

  • Continuously supported by companies (e.g. Die Arche, sennder, Project A, voi) and NGOs for logistics, food, and materials.

Our KPIs

  • 2 classrooms serving 35 children with 5 part-time teachers.

  • ~€4,000/month per classroom in funding needs.

  • Hundreds of children and families reached through registration and outreach.

  • Positive qualitative feedback from parents and teachers on child development and integration.
